Impact
Helped calibrate the bridge engineer’s model and identified movement at the western pier for follow-up during later construction.
Challenge
The rail drawbridge required a measured reference condition while adjacent construction proceeded and pier movement was under review.
STRAAM approach
STRAAM measured dynamic response and tilt and worked with Hardesty & Hanover to correlate a finite-element model. The reviewed monitoring period was September 15–October 24, 2011.
Result
The work established a reference for the drawbridge and documented movement at its western pier. The observations supported calibration of the engineer’s model.
