Impact
Compared bridge-pier movement with a reference to help distinguish temperature-related changes from effects of nearby construction.
Challenge
Adjacent bridge construction raised the need to track response at piers of the existing Great Egg Harbor Bay Bridge.
STRAAM approach
STRAAM monitored tilt, spectral response, and vibration intensity at piers 3, 32, 36, and 45. The reviewed report covers June 1–30, 2014 and uses a February 26 baseline.
Result
The observations helped separate temperature-related movement from changes associated with construction, giving the team a clearer basis for understanding what the readings reflected.
